To foster a climate of excellence, innovation and partnership, enabling Occupational Health Nurses to achieve positive workplace health and safety objectives.
The London Industrial Nurses' Group began in the 1950's when 10-15 nurses from various area industries met in each others' homes to network and share work issues. As this group of nurses became larger in the 1970's, they began to meet at the YWCA for dinner and a speaker as well as networking.
This active group of Occupational Health Nurses grew to 90 members in the 1980s when the group expanded to include towns and cities around London as requested by nurses wanting the support and educational opportunities available in this location .
By-laws then reflected those of the Provincial Occupational Health Nurses' Association.
Fanshawe College was approached to establish a post R.N.diploma in the specialty of Occupational Health Nursing and the first class graduated in May 1986. Presently 3 of our members teach in that program.
The London and District Occupational Health Nurses' Association has hosted 5 provincial conferences, sent 3 members to the OOHNA Board of Directors [ including President and Treasurer ], and has had a recipient and a nominee for the Outstanding Provincial OHN Award. We annually make a donation to a community non profit organization that supports our values and mission.
We welcome new members and guests to our bimonthly meetings. Continuing Education contact hours are provided for attendance when a speaker is on the agenda. Please contact the current Membership Secretary for more information and the next meeting location.
